The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed some 14 students in some Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country following recent acts of indiscipline and destruction recorded during the conduct of the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The said students have also been barred from writing their remaining papers in the ongoing examination organised by the West Africa Examination Council.

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in a statement stated that these sanctions have been taken to “serve as a deterrent and to ensure that life and property are protected in schools.”

John Kwofie- Sekondi College

Simon Ameyibor (Senior Prefect) – Tweneboah Koduah SHS

Background: students riote

Following their first paper ( Integrated Science) in this year’s WASSCE, videos surfaced on social media where students were seen agitating over claims they were not allowed to cheat and that they could not answer the questions that were set.

Students were also seen vandalizing school property and some using unprintable words on high level public figures including the president of the republic.

These actions by the students have been condemned by the public with calls for the students involved to be sanctioned appropriately.
