Man killed over GH¢25.00 by task-force team in the Volta Region, Angry residents retaliate

A 28-year old shop owner, Wisdom Darkey, has been “intentionally” knocked and killed at Dzolo Gbogame by a task-force team of Ho West District Assembly in the Volta region, residents claimed.

According to an eyewitness Prosper Korsi Ahiaku, the deceased’s uncle who was at the shop before the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 22nd January narrated the incident as “bloody and unexpected death “.

He said, a team of four task-force officers including a lady and a driver, locked the shop because the deceased could not pay an amount of GH¢25.00 as district levy.

He indicated that, after minutes of dragging an issue with the officers over payment of the revenue, the deceased begged to pay GH¢20.00 but the officers demanded full payment, and that led to the disagreement between both the shop owner and the officials.

Plus233.com understands that, the deceased climbed the vehicle’s bonnet, a Toyota Hilux pickup and demanded his shop be opened.

Sadly, the said driver who was identified as John, a senior driver at the Assembly and leader of the revenue task-force “half-clutched” the car and the young man fell off the vehicle after which he was knocked by the same vehicle.

However, some youths of the community have vandalized the Assembly premises, burnt a car, took away computers among other vital materials.

The situation was later calmed by the Ho West District Police Command and peace has been restored, meanwhile the police have declined an interview on the development.

So far, no arrests have been made. Some of the assembly workers have sought refuge at the district police station.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ho Teaching Hospital mortuary.
